| Evelyn Dewar moved to Devon after a major spinal fracture received when escaping from a house fire in the Portobello Road, London.
Remarkably, Evelyn made a full recovery, resumed painting and went on to study PGCE Post Compulsory at Exeter University.
The Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, Venice is better known as the Fortuny Museum. It is home to the remarkable and prolific creative outpourings of the artist and designer Mariano Fortuny (1871-1949). |
![]() Evelyn Dewar: Embrace £1200 Evelyn is concerned with the affects of both process and time on the unconscious mind and how this method of production results in works that often refer simultaneously to both past and present and to places real and imagined. Her paintings display elements of abstraction and are yet recognisable to the viewer.
The richly exotic and atmospheric space of the Fortuny Museum is the starting point for Evelyn’s series of work currently on display at THE ART ROOM Topsham.

Evelyn Dewar is currently a Fine Art lecturer responsible for higher education provision within the faculty of Art and Design at Exeter College. She has had significant exhibitions at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Centre for Contemporary Art Glasgow.
THE ART ROOM Gallery Director Deborah Wood’s intention is to create a place of integrity for leading painters in the region to exhibit and to promote their work to a national audience. These senior painters set the benchmark by which artists are selected. Evelyn Dewar and Christine Spencer Green have met these exacting criteria.
